NFU Scotland
NFU Scotland, formed in 1913, is Scotland’s leading agricultural organisation representing more than 9,000 farmers, crofters and rural businesses the length and breadth of the country. NFU Scotland’s primary mission is to deliver a profitable and sustainable future for its members.
NFU Scotland is committed to promoting the interests of farming in Scotland. That means listening to our members and developing policies which are promoted to government, stakeholders, and the wider food chain to make sure that Scottish farmers and crofters are allowed to operate in a profitable, fair and equitable environment.
As well as influencing the food chain, through our ShelfWatch campaign, NFU Scotland lobbies the Scottish Government, MSPs and their committees to keep rural issues at the top of the political agenda and to make sure the agricultural voice is heard. We influence government policy at Westminster, taking the case for Scottish agriculture to MPs, the Cabinet and the Prime Minister. Through our office in Brussels, run jointly with other UK Farming Unions, we continue to be represented at the heart of Europe, post-Brexit where NFUS fights for Scotland’s ability to trade with European nations.
NFU Scotland has a very high public profile through its forceful and forthright defence of Scottish farming and crofting interests. We use this profile to tell the real story about our industry through hundreds of radio and TV interviews. We are widely respected as the voice of Scottish food and farming dealing with thousands of media enquiries every year.
