The Future of Glasgow: City Living business breakfast 2025

It was a powerful call to action and now The Herald is following up its week-long investigative series, carried out jointly with the Glasgow Times, into the state of Scotland’s biggest city by taking the conversation to the next level.

The Future of Glasgow: City Living sponsored by SafeDeposits Scotland and s1homes, is a dynamic business breakfast event that will explore the current state of Glasgow’s residential sector and delve into themes on what can be done to transform city centre living.

The event will bring together experts from across the property sector to examine the changes that need to happen and the challenges that stand in the way of improvements, as well as looking at the opportunities that exist to make Glasgow a flourishing residential city.

During The Future of Glasgow series, journalists shone a spotlight on issues such as the state of Sauchiehall Street, the unsuitability of traditional business accommodation for today’s commercial needs and the impact that a declining retail sector has had on the city centre. They also turned to notable figures, such as Andy Burnham, mayor of Greater Manchester, to gain insights into how collaboration with other regional capitals could strengthen Glasgow’s position.

From demanding answers from Susan Aitken, leader of Glasgow City Council, to giving a platform to Michael Kelly, former Lord Provost, whose innovative ‘Glasgow’s Miles Better’ campaign transformed how the world viewed Glasgow, and how Glasgow viewed itself, during the 1980s., the series was a wide-ranging exploration of the need for change.

The issues raised during that series will be followed up during the business breakfast, when all aspects of city living, from student accommodation and social housing, to private lettings, new build developments and build-to-rent projects, will be up for discussion.

Speakers will be drawn from across the property sector, Through key notes, interactive panel discussions, and participatory Q&A sessions, industry experts will share valuable insights and actionable advice.

Alan Partridge, Marketing Manager at SafeDeposits Scotland, said: “We are pleased to be supporting this unique event. As a Glasgow based company serving private rented sector landlords, letting agents and tenants across Scotland, we look forward to hearing valuable discussion on how the future of city living might look for our customers.”

The event will take place on Wednesday, 30 April at il Salotto, the newly opened collaborative space for architects and designers, set in the heart of the Merchant City.

Il Salotto is the creation of Sara Seravalli, a judge on The Herald Property Awards for Scotland, and the force behind the influential #designpopup which, for the last decade, has been bringing together influential figures in the world of architecture and design.

The Future of Glasgow: City Living is an opportunity to gain the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the fast-changing property market and to help shape Glasgow as a vibrant residential city.
