Scots property excellence celebrated at Herald awards

A PROPERTY development in Castlemilk, Glasgow, has been hailed as the best in Scotland.

Dougrie Drive was one of the big winners in The Herald Property Awards for 2018, which took place at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Glasgow last night. The £14.8 million development saw Glasgow Housing Association, part of the Wheatley Group, deliver 130 affordable homes to the area.

The Castlemilk project was one of a host of property successes celebrated at last night’s event, which attracted an audience of more than 500 guests from the housebuilding and property development sectors. It was the culmination of a painstaking process which saw judges spend months on the road visiting the best properties the country has to offer. Entries were received from all over Scotland, from Aberdeen to Loch Lomond and Edinburgh to North Berwick.

As well as Dougrie Drive the awards, held in association with SP Energy Networks, produced big wins for Morgan McDonnell Architecture, which picked up the award Commercial Project of the Year for The Garment Factory in Glasgow’s Merchant City. Halliday Homes won the inaugural Estate Agency of the Year Award, while City & Country won the 2018 Judges’ Award for its restoration of The Play Fair at Donaldson’s in Edinburgh.

Craig Arthur, distribution director for SP Energy Networks in Scotland, said: “It was a pleasure to attend the awards and support the event as title partner for this year.

“The desire to support and promote the organisations and individuals in the property sector, the driving force behind these awards, is something which resonates with us at SP Energy Networks. Congratulations to all the winners and finalists.”

Calum Miller, associate director for new homes at Rettie & Co, said: “The standard of entry was incredibly high this year, I’m sure the judges had a lengthy debate in coming to an overall winner.”

Phil Prentice, chief officer for Scotland’s Towns Partnership, said: “It’s was wonderful to be part of such a high profile and positive event showcasing all the best of Scotland’s property industry, which supports much of our economic prosperity and innovation.”

Paul Alexander, head of business development at Scottish Building Society, said: “We were delighted to support the awards for a second year and were impressed with the standard of entries once again.”

Keith Benzie, associate director of Space & Time Media, said: “Space & Time would like to congratulate Perceptive Communicators for winning the Property Team of the Year award.”

Keith Denholm, director, of Allied Surveyors Scotland, said: “Congratulations to Robertson Homes for being the winners of Best Small Family Home.”

Brian Fulton, director of Ross & Liddell, said: “The awards ceremony is one of the highlights of the property calendar and judging by the reaction from the room on the evening, was yet again a resounding success.”

Gary Daw, managing Director of Daw Signs and Fit Outs said: “Well done to Avant Homes for winning the Best Show home Award. It was a fabulous night.”

Jamie McKenzie, account executive at Bruce Stevenson Insurance Brokers, said: “It was a pleasure to present the award for Residential Letting Team of the Year and I’d like to extend our congratulations to the winners Umega Lettings.”

Jim Mitchell, operations director at Daw Kitchens, said: “Daw Kitchens was delighted to sponsor the award for Best Large Family Home. It is good to see the hard work of CALA Homes (East) being celebrated.”
