Dunfermline: Project Sugarcoat are Youth Community Champions

A powerful pupil-led initiative earned the title of this year’s Youth Community Champions, sponsored by Fife Council.

Project SUGARCOAT involves students from Dunfermline, Queen Anne, and Inverkeithing High Schools.

It was recognised during Thursday’s Community Champion Awards ceremony at the city’s Glen Pavilion.

Trainees have created impactful films about topics such as vaping, which are often seen as being ‘sugarcoated’ from the perspective of young people.

The group hopes that the award will highlight young people making a positive difference.

Discussing the award, another group member said: “It’s unexpected, but great. Hopefully this can bring more attention to kids our age making a difference.”

Sessions teaching skills such as camera set up lighting techniques, and sound recording, are led by two creative industries professionals, Adam Stanley and Otto Cox.

Dunfermline Area Committee Convener James Calder presented the group with its well-earned award.
