Members of the public will be able to vote for their local community champions.

Launch – Monday, June 29

Nomination Deadline – Monday, September 14

Sifting Session – Mid-October

Public Vote – Opens Monday, Oct 5 and runs until Monday Oct 19

Final Judging Session – w/c Monday October 19 to End of October

Glittering Awards Ceremony – Wednesday, December 2, 2026

2026 Categories

COMMUNITY CHAMPION OF THE YEAR

Rewarding a local individual, aged over 18, who goes out of their way to help those around them. This award will go to someone whose actions are a force for good in the community.

CHAMPION TEAM OF THE YEAR

This award will go to a group of dedicated people changing their community for the better. It could be a team of nurses, charity workers, volunteer befrienders – anything goes.

SPORTING CHAMPION OF THE YEAR

This recognises a local club or individual who is making an impact in grassroots sport, either on the pitch or off it. Who is the beating heart of local sport?

YOUTH COMMUNITY CHAMPION OF THE YEAR

We are looking for a young person who makes a significant contribution to their local community. Perhaps they volunteer for a local good cause, or help people despite challenges in their own lives? We want to hear about them.

LITTLE CHAMPION OF THE YEAR

You do not need to be big to make a big difference…this award recognises a child whose achievements, courage or bravery make your heart burst with pride.

SENIOR CHAMPION OF THE YEAR

This award is for an inspirational person aged over 60 who contributes selflessly to their community, helping out a good cause, running a local project or doing something completely different to support others.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING CHAMPION OF THE YEAR

This award recognises those who have dedicated their lives to health and wellbeing causes. Who works tirelessly in your community to improve the life chances and opportunities of people in the city? It could be an individual or a group.

GREEN CHAMPION OF THE YEAR

This award will be presented to an individual or team working to tackle the climate crisis and biodiversity loss. Our winner will be passionate about improving local areas for the benefit of all, perhaps through regular clean-ups, eco-friendly initiatives, or gardening – the sky’s the limit.

ARTS CHAMPION OF THE YEAR

An award which recognises the power of the creative arts in building a strong community, this award will be presented to a musician, theatre group, singer, dancer or poet having a positive impact on through projects or performances.

GLASGOW TIMES 150 ANNIVERSARY PRIZE

A special award recognising an individual or group whose long-standing dedication has made a lasting impact on Glasgow. Celebrating years of commitment to volunteering, community action or social change, it honours those who have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others.
