The Herald Law Awards of Scotland 2025, in association with 123 Medical Services, will take place in Glasgow on Friday, 7 November and finalists have just been announced.
For more than 20 years, these awards have been the most prestigious of their kind in Scotland and once again the judges have been impressed by the number of high-quality entries, which have demonstrated a breadth of accomplishments across the whole legal sector.
Rob Rinder, familiar to TV viewers for his hugely-successful legal and travel shows, as well as for his novels based in the world of law, will return for a second year to host a glittering ceremony at the Radisson Blu hotel in Glasgow, when the winners will be revealed to an audience of key figures from Scotland’s legal establishment.
The culmination of events will be the announcement of the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award, which last year went to Professor, The Right Honourable Sir David Edward, Honorary Fellow of University College, Oxford and Professor Emeritus of the School of Law at the University of Edinburgh. This year’s recipient will receive their accolade following the presentation of awards in 16 further categories.
These categories include the Up and Coming Award, Paralegal of the Year Award and Rising Star at the Scottish Bar, all sponsored by the event title partner, legal medical experts, 123 Medical Services, and Sairah Din, managing director, 123 Medical Services, was fulsome in her praise for all those who have made it onto the shortlist. She said: “These awards shine a spotlight on the people and practices that consistently go the extra mile and that’s something we deeply respect and relate to. The awards are a meaningful way to pause and celebrate the individuals and firms who not only uphold the highest standards, but also innovate and lead with purpose.”
The highly contested Family and Child Law Team of the Year is sponsored by Family Wealth powered by Acumen, while High Street Firm of the Year is sponsored by Denovo.
Grant Yuill, Head of Marketing & Customer Engagement, Denovo, said: “We want to offer our heartfelt congratulations to all the finalists in the High Street Firm of the Year category. The quality of entries this year has been outstanding, reflecting the dedication and passion of Scotland’s high street firms. These practices are the cornerstone of their communities, and it’s inspiring to see them delivering exceptional legal services while embracing modern technology and innovation. As a company that works with hundreds of Scottish firms, we see first-hand the effort it takes to deliver excellence every day. These finalists embody everything that makes the Scottish legal profession so exceptional, and we’re delighted to celebrate their achievements.”
Both the Litigation Team of the Year and the Debt Recovery Team of the Year awards are sponsored by Stirling Park and Ronnie Murison, Director of Sheriff Officer Services at Stirling Park, said “We congratulate the firms and individuals that have been shortlisted across all categories, especially for those nominated under Litigation and Debt Recovery Firms of the Year, whom we are aligned to in providing sheriff officer services throughout Scotland. Good luck to all the finalists!”
There are two Law Firm of the Year awards, one for firms with under 150 certificates and a second for larger firms, and both categories are sponsored by IDEX Consulting.
Meena Bahanda, Head of Legal Recruitment Scotland for IDEX Consulting, said: “Huge congratulations to all the finalists for the Law Firm of the Year categories. We’re extremely proud to be supporting the Herald Law Awards again this year, acknowledging the important work of so many individuals and firms who go above and beyond to provide the best legal advice possible. We wish you the best of luck and look forward to seeing you at the event”,
Other categories include Criminal Law Firm of the Year; Digital and Intellectual Property Team of the Year; ESG Award and Pro Bono Award.
The Innovation Award and the Solicitor of the Year Award are both sponsored by Law Society of Scotland and the Outstanding Contribution Award is sponsored by Border, the leading Scottish biscuit company.
A spokesperson for Border said: “We believe that the entrants in the Outstanding Contribution category not only demonstrate exceptional performance, but also inspire others through their dedication, resilience and forward-thinking approach.
“We’re honoured to recognise and celebrate the people and practices raising the bar for excellence across the legal profession.”
