Edinburgh National Centre for Music appoints Anderson Strathern advisers

Plans for Edinburgh’s proposed National Centre for Music have taken a step forward with the appointment of a legal adviser for the project.

Independent Scottish law firm Anderson Strathern will support the development of the new cultural venue at the former Royal High School on Calton Hill.

The firm will work with the National Centre for Music charity, which is set to become the future tenant of the Category A-listed building, as it collaborates with the Royal High School Preservation Trust on plans to transform the landmark site.

The project aims to create a national hub for music, education, performance and community engagement within the historic building.

Proposals include restored performance spaces, community facilities and landscaped public gardens designed to reconnect the site with the surrounding city.

The National Centre for Music is intended to provide a home for music in all its forms while securing the long-term future of the former Royal High School.

Anderson Strathern’s specialist teams will advise on a range of legal matters linked to the redevelopment and the charity’s future operation.

Dawn MacPherson, partner at Anderson Strathern, said: “It’s a privilege to be appointed to support the National Centre for Music on such a significant project that will benefit Edinburgh culturally and economically.

“The appointment is testament to the extensive experience of our people when it comes to redevelopment of historic buildings and the depth of resources and range of specialists we have to deliver this work.

“We’re looking forward to working closely with the team and helping them bring their extraordinary vision to life.”
