WHAT DO a charity which helps veterans in Govan, a community choir in the Gorbals and a primary school in Castlemilk all have in common?

They are all community champions from the south of Glasgow – and we know there are many more fantastic groups like them.

We are looking for nominations for this year’s Glasgow Community Champion Awards, run by the Evening Times in association
with Glasgow Fort and supported by Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Community Planning Partnership, Glasgow Housing Association and Trades House of Glasgow.

Entries are coming in thick and fast for all three areas of the city covered by the contest – north east, north west and south.

The South Side is full of outstanding individuals and hardworking groups – make sure you tell us about them before the closing date later this month.

Coming Home Centre, which provides support to veterans and their families in Govan, won the Team award last year; St John Paul II Primary in Castlemilk received a special commendation for its dedication to supporting its community; and music programme Givin’ It Laldie, won the Health and Wellbeing Award.

We know there are many more worthy contenders out there for a Community Champion Award – so tell us all about them.

Entries are now open for this year’s Community Champion awards.

You can nominate on the website at https://newsquestscotlandevents.com/events/ glasgowcommchamps/ or contact Stephen Downie, Events Executive on Stephen.downie@newsquest.co.uk or 0141 302 6014.

The closing date for entries is Tuesday, September 17.

A shortlist will then go to a public online vote to determine the winners in each area. They will then progress to the Grand Final at Glasgow City Chambers on December 6.
